Siemens

Railways

Since 2000, Spirit Design has worked on Siemens’ innovative and trendsetting train, subway and tram concepts. Spirit Design not only develops the design itself, but also intensely involves itself with trends and passenger needs in order to implement optimal solutions. Spirit Design combines this with the aim of making public transport more efficient and more attractive.

Viaggio Comfort

Viaggio Comfort

Design Provides Sales Success

Under the name Viaggio Comfort, Siemens developed railway platforms that are sold to railway operators worldwide. With the aim of enthusing potential customers at a first glance, Spirit Design presented suggestions for the exterior and interior designs. Thus, future clients can get a clear picture from the beginning of what their train might look like – this concrete visualisation provides an important element for sales success. The Taurus driven ÖBB railjet designed by Spirit Design exemplifies a highly successful version of the Viaggio Comfort platform.

Formal Message, Functional Benefits

The stylistic elements communicate attributes such as comfort and speed, while maintaining both high ecological and economic efficiency. The design makes the product’s superior characteristics visible and, therefore, emotionally perceptible. It also supports cost-effective production and contributes to the maximisation of resources by focusing on the optimisation of manufacturing technology in assembly, as well as in aerodynamics.

New image film - moving product presentation

Spirit Design conceived for Siemens Transportation an animated image film. It was used to present products at the 2012 edition of InnoTrans, the international trade fair for the transport industry. The film enables the company to be experienced as a supplier of future-viable mobility solutions. The film conveys - in a high-impact and emotional way - the advantages supplied by the products. It reveals the ability of Viaggio Comfort to be flexibly adapted to the individual requirements of international railroad operators. The image film thus constitutes an important vehicle of communication and of sales support. Spirit Design’s commission comprised the strategic

configuration of the film and of its image and advertising messages, the structuring of the animations, and the handling of the accompanying project management.

ÖBB railjet

ÖBB railjet

Everything on Track

As part of its restructuring, the ÖBB Group has set itself, among other things, the goal of increasing its competitiveness. The high-speed train ÖBB railjet is an important part of this strategy. On behalf of Siemens, Spirit Design developed the entire exterior and interior design of the train, and under direct contract from the ÖBB Spirit Design created a comprehensive brand architecture, meaning the railjet’s brand design. Here, Spirit Design benefited from experience in other projects within the field of transportation design, such as the development of the integrated design of the CAT City Airport Train. Viaggio Lowfloor

Viaggio Lowfloor

Low Floor for Extra Comfort

Another variation of this platform of train designs is the low-floor train Viaggio Lowfloor. Starting in 2002, Spirit Design have developed numerous concepts for the implementation of this version of the design platform. The Israeli State Railways operate these innovative trains.

Subway of the Future

Subway of the Future

Design of Vision

In 2010 Spirit Design were invited to develop some key ideas regarding subways of the present and the near future, and to visualise some ideas in the form of cutting edge designs and innovative concepts. Here, the project Metro 2020 opens up a direct connection between the environment, operators and users.

Spirit Design also draw up consistent conclusions through innovative approaches to future challenges that urban public transport faces. “In the future, it will not be a matter of transporting anonymous masses, but many individuals”. Numerous innovative approaches for sustainable solutions have been developed here in order to increase not just efficiency, but also the overall attractiveness of public transport.

Dynamic Design Studies

Based in part on the Viaggio Comfort platform, Spirit Design developed numerous design studies on the subject ICEx. This was done with the particular goal of a consistent evolution of typical and dynamic design language.

Urban Mobility on Rails

Over the last few years, Spirit Design has developed several subways and concepts for subways. Spirit Design’s first finalised project in subway design was Kaoshiung/Taiwan. Numerous additional concept developments followed, as well as the innovation project L-rail.

Development

The concept ULF Graz demonstrates a clear development in Siemens’ Ultra Low Floor trams through the corporate design of Graz’s public transport. In the spirit of an integrated model upgrading, Spirit Design modernised the design accordingly.
