Spirit Design Designs New Plastic Recycling Plant

Vienna/Düsseldorf, October 16, 2013. In the year marking its 30th anniversary, the Upper Austrian company and global market leader EREMA is presenting its new plant system INTAREMA®. Its design originates from the strategic consulting company Spirit Design – Innovation and Brand GmbH. INTAREMA® offers a new dimension in plastic recycling on the basis of its newly developed core technology, the globally patented Counter Current technology from EREMA, as well as other groundbreaking technical innovations. This ensures the highest level of productivity, flexibility and operational reliability based on the easiest use and considerably reduced energy consumption.

EREMA is presenting its new plastic recycling plant engineering system INTAREMA® at the K2013 in Düsseldorf, the world’s most important trade fair for plastics and rubber. For many years the Upper Austrian company, which is the world’s market leader and innovation leader in the construction and engineering of plastic recycling plants, has served as the globally leading standard for various tasks relating to in-house recycling of production waste as well as heavily contaminated post consumer waste.

The core technology of the new INTAREMA® system, the patented Counter Current system, ensures an incredibly broad and secure processing window as well as extensive flexibility with respect to different types of plastic materials. They are already subject to optimal treatment and preparation at the beginning of the recycling process. The recycling extruder can thus accept considerably more material in a short time, and is much more independent of the pre-compaction level. “Our revolutionary and new core technology has extremely positive effects on the productivity of INTAREMA® as well as on the quality of the resulting recyclates”, states Michael Heitzinger, CTO of EREMA. “As a consequence, the plant is even more flexible, significantly more stable in production and can be more effectively regulated at a higher level of automation. This further development is optimally conveyed by the dynamic design implemented by Spirit Design”, he adds.

The puristic, linear outer design by Spirit Design perfectly highlights the innovative core technology and the new gear units driving INTAREMA®. Thanks to the changed plant setup, the maintenance-friendly nature of the facility is increased. This is shown, in particular, by the fact that high-maintenance parts are easily accessible. The formal concept underlying the plastic recycling plant is a generally functional and streamlined one.  Daniel Huber, Managing Partner Strategic Design of Spirit Design, explains the basic idea. “With respect to design, the focus was on simplicity and straightforwardness and not the design as an end in itself. The perfect engineering of the plant transport a very clear product message. The innovative and high-performance technology is optimally expressed in the appearance of the facility. From our experience we can see that this also makes a significant contribution to a positive purchasing decision, also when it comes to capital goods.”

The design attached particular importance to the control panel of INTAREMA®. As an important interface between man and machine, the simplified and easily accessible operating element ensures optimal usability. The user interface offers an intuitive use which is similar to the smart phones in the consumer goods segment. Just a very few, clearly understandable symbols ensure simple and language-independent use. The interface conveys the efficiency of the entire plant by providing information on all important machine parameters.

Emphasis was also placed in production costs in developing the design. The optimal housing is reflecting in the slim design and minimized casing of forms made of real materials, in this case easy care, low maintenance sandblasted high grade steel. The formal concept takes the entire product portfolio of EREMA into account, and can thus be applied as a visual product language to other plants as well as adjacent assemblies to feed in and further process the waste materials.

Thanks to EREMA high-grade regranulates, which comprise valuable secondary raw materials, are derived from the waste materials. The decisive factor is the stable and gentle recycling process carried out by INTAREMA®. This is particularly essential in processing clean in-house waste from the production process in order to ensure recovery rates of 100% high quality recyclates if possible boasting the same quality as newly produced plastics. With respect to post consumer recycling, the INTAREMA® technology also comprises a quantum leap forward. Here it especially scores points on the basis of its high level of flexibility. Despite high fluctuation rates with respect to moisture and density which the input material is typically subject to, the new INTAREMA® also ensures in this case that the quality of the regranulates produced continually achieves a constantly high level of quality.
