Vienna Energy Forum 2015

Viennese SME Spirit Design presents an eco-social system innovation for biogas-based mobility in Brazil

  • Prototype premiere of the biomethane-powered working and transportation vehicle CH4PA in front of the Hofburg Palace
  • Starting signal for the comprehensive innovation project Atmove to create biogas-based mobility in rural areas of Brazil
  • In cooperation with the local partners CIBiogás/ITAIPU, Spirit Design addresses major challenges in terms of nutrition, environmental pollution and mobility

The story begins with the vision of Spirit Design Managing Partners Daniel Huber and Georg Wagner to provide smallholdings in emerging and developing countries with a small tractor to increase both their productivity and self-sufficiency. This vision turned into a comprehensive innovation project with the biogas-powered working vehicle CH4PA as just one of many modular elements: in the context of the Atmove Biogas Innovation Center, the plan includes elaborate infrastructure with concrete, innovative product developments and customized consulting and implementation services in the Brazilian pilot region Paraná. Funded by the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant ITAIPU, the model of biogas-based mobility in rural areas of Brazil will first be locally established in cooperation with project partner CIBiogás  and then expanded to further emerging and developing countries. The prototype of the working and transportation vehicle CH4PA is the first step and central symbol of rural biomethane mobility. On the occasion of the Vienna Energy Forum 2015 at Hofburg Palace, the prototype was presented to the general public and trade professionals with high-ranking representatives of Brazil. Evandro Didonet, Brazilian Ambassador, commented on the project: “Brazil is a world leader in renewable energies. We are happy to see that our CIBiogás is now cooperating with an Austrian company in order to further promote renewable energies in our country.”

New ÖBB cityjet

ÖBB presents new suburban traffic design by Spirit Design

  • Consistent design concept sets new standards in European suburban traffic
  • Strong brand ÖBB and its values now also consistently at product level in suburban and long-distance traffic
  • ÖBB cityjet offers mobile living space and individual comfort to all user groups

Vienna, 3 September 2013.

The new ÖBB cityjet’s branding and interior design were developed by Vienna-based, strategic design company Spirit Design – Innovation and Brand. Today ÖBB CEO Christian Kern and Federal Minister Doris Bures presented the new ÖBB train for suburban traffic to the public. Consequently, ÖBB is one of the first railway companies to pursue an integrated design strategy that includes both product portfolio and brand presence. The brand ÖBB will be perceived and recognised as a consistent user experience in the most important point of customer contact – the train – and all other design elements. As Christian Kern, CEO of ÖBB-Holding AG, explains, “Rail travel is unquestionably in fashion. The increasing number of passengers is the result of, among other things, our rolling stock’s quality improvements. This is why we will continue to modernise the ÖBB vehicle fleet by adding 100 new cityjet trains for suburban and regional traffic by 2015. The cityjet will follow in the railjet’s footsteps and become for suburban traffic what the railjet is for long-distance traffic.”
