Vienna Design Week

Workshop with TU Eindhoven

We were once again involved in a workshop at this year's Vienna Design Week. Design students from different semesters at the Eindhoven University of Technology worked together with us for one day on developing a smart city tool which would enable citizens to shape joint mobility offerings and thus support a change in awareness and values.

How should a "city of the future" actually look? How can each individual help shape the ecological structural transformation? How can our mobility habits and thus our way of getting around in metropolitan areas be quickly and easily optimized? These and other questions were enthusiastically handled by industrial design students from the Eindhoven University of Technology under the guidance of Georg Wagner and Karoline Schuster. Within the context of their excursion which also took them to Bratislava and Budapest, they gained additional practical skills for their own education.

After being given content-related input concerning the topics of "smart city" and "smart mobility", the students devoted their time to the initial ideas which arose in relation to a smart city tool. This tool should be designed to playfully motivate the population to contribute data and actively participate in the development of mobility options. On the basis of enthusiasm and dedication, we want to motivate people to mutually change our behavior and design cities which are livable in the long term as well as sustainable mobility options.

The ideas generated in the workshop will be presented on September 27, 2014 within the context of the themed evening "Future Urban Mobility" of the Vienna Design Week. The participants from Eindhoven are invited to actively contribute to this event. We look forward to seeing you again!
