Japanese Rail Experts at Spirit Design

Cross-cultural exchange of know-how

Their annual international market monitoring led the Japan Railway Rolling Stock & Machinery Association to visit us at our premises in Vienna’s Hasnerstrasse on October 12, 2015. The organization, which promotes safety, operational efficiency and innovation in rail traffic, chose the industry experts from Spirit Design as their desired dialogue partners.

The prominent delegation consisted of 21 representatives of the most important companies in the Japanese railway industry, for example East Japan Railway Company, West Japan Railway Techsia Co. Ltd., Tokyo Metro Co. Ltd., Mitsibishi Electric Corporation, Japan Railway Rolling Stock & Machinery Association, JR East Japan Technology Co. Ltd. and Seibu Railway Co. Ltd.

Head designer Daniel Huber informed the guests from Asia about the philosophy of Spirit Design. He demonstrated our way of working to the Japanese experts on the basis of the major railway projects implemented by him and his team. The completed and well-known projects such as the ÖBB railjet, ÖBB cityjet and CAT-City Airport Train aroused just as much interest as our rail concepts for the future.

In the exciting discussion which ensued, the participants exchanged views on the differing passenger demands and cultural differences between Japanese and European trains. Everyone involved fully agreed on our key principle, namely that passengers are individuals with different needs, regardless of the particular cultural environment in which they live.
